Another Celebration: Our 2 Year Anniversary

You've heard of the hubs.  You know, the one who doesn't like cake?  Yep, that's the one I speak of.  Today, September 15, 2009, we are celebrating our 2nd anniversary!  My blog-friend, Kitty, over at Fahrenheit 350, inspired me to share our story with you.  She also compared her husband, upon first meeting, to the great Mr. Darcy, which made me realize that that is exactly how Drew was when we met....so here goes.

Oct. 1st, 2003 - This is the day we first met.  I was a freshman in college.  Drew was fresh out of college and had just begun his first real job.  I was attending the college group at a local church and fell absolutely in love with the college minister, Mrs. Brenda, who happens to be Drew's mom.  We tell people we met at church, but we actually met through church...at O'Charley's.  :)  I'm a very outgoing person.  I want to get to know everyone.  Well, "Mr. Darcy" wasn't having it that night.  I was asking him questions and getting one word answers.  I'm surprised I got answers at all.  Drew wanted absolutely nothing to do with me...but he did start coming to church after that.........

Late October, 2003 - The night of the College Ministry Halloween party.  Drew and I were aquaintances now.  I brought my new boyfriend to the party.  I knew someone who had a crush on Drew and decided to say, and I quote, "I know someone who has a crush on you!"  Little did I know, he was hoping that "someone" was me.  Ooopps.  Not quite, buddy.  I just wasn't that into him.

Our first camping trip together on our 1 year dating anniversary

June, 2004 - The boyfriend and I just broke up.  I was bitter.  Drew was also bitter about a previous relationship.  We decided to go out on the town with some friends that night.  As Drew and I headed downtown in his truck, we started realizing how much we had in common when it came to past loves.  We were enjoying the fact that we could finally share our heartbreak with someone.  It was nice.  Sometime later that evening (in the truck again....no, this is not going where you think it is going), Drew put on some music (I wanna say it was Michael Jackson), threw on a fedora and started dancing MJ-style to the music.  WHEW!  That boy can dance!  My heart started thumping a mile a minute at that point and I just knew I had to get this guy to go out with me!  So I straight up asked him out.  He said "Okay," and by "Okay," he really meant "No."  Yeah, I realized that later.  Bummer.

July/August 2004 - We did try to become something during that fantastic summer between my freshman and sophomore years of college.  It never worked out, but I did gain a wonderful friend.

We remained friends for a long time, years actually.  He was just a fun person to spend time with.  He was such an introverted pessimist, which oddly meshed well with my extroverted optimistic personality.

He liked my dog.  Big plus for me!

Spring 2005 - Drew had back surgery and was out of work for many weeks.  I learned later that I was the only friend to visit him in the hospital.  I remember that day very well, although Drew doesn't remember a thing...of course.  I took him a Get Well card (a funny one from Target) and some pictures of us together.  Remember, we were still just friends.  I did not like him like THAT at this point.  After his surgery, I knew he was stuck in his parents house and unable to go have any fun with friends, so I called.  And I called.  And I kept on calling.  But Drew never picked up.  He never returned my calls.  I felt pretty awful about that, because I was his good friend and I visited him in the hospital and I got nothing?  What the....????

On our honeymoon, the morning after our wedding

Summer 2005 - We finally started hanging out again.  Drew got his own apartment after he was all better from the surgery.  We watched movies, ate pizza, enjoyed each other's company.

October 2005 - I hadn't spoken to Drew in a while, so I called him on my way home from work.  He said to stop by and I did.  I wasn't there long, maybe 10 minutes.  On my way out the door we mentioned going and having sushi sometime and he said "Can we make it a date?" and I simply said (against my better judgement), "Okay?"  The rest of the week was filled with my constant worrying.  I did not want to ruin this friendship.

Having fun at the No Doubt concert!

October 15 2005 - Our first date.  This is the night I knew he was the one for me.  It was that simple.

April 2007 - ENGAGED!!!!

September 15, 2007 - Our wedding day.  It was absolutely beautiful!  We got married in my grandparent's backyard out in the country and it was the best day of my life.

September 15, 2009 - Here we are.  Two years and I love him even more today than the day we got married, which is hard to believe.  Tonight we are going to enjoy a homecooked meal (Emeril's fettucini alfredo recipe) and go see "Paper Heart" at the local indie theatre.

Drew, I love you.  Thank you for marrying me.

With love, Ev

I've been waiting for this post! I'm so happy you wrote about your most important story! Why do boys think they look so cool when they act aloof????? One question: Where did you go on your honeymoon?
